Making Moxie is an website for women who work and are looking for knowledge, empowerment, and community — so that’s what all of our articles are about. If you’d like to see your work featured here, your submissions should fit into one of those three categories. Here are some other things you need to know:
We only accept original pieces. (We might not love SEO, but we respect it!) So please submit your freshest work and don’t plan on publishing it elsewhere.
Making Moxie doesn’t just want to empower its readers, but also its writers. Don’t hesitate to write about sensitive topics or to use your authentic voice when writing.
You may pitch us a topic for your article or you may submit an entire article for publication. We have the right to opt out at any time during the editorial process if the piece doesn’t feel like it’s morphing into something our ladies want or need to read.
Not sure what to write about? Read some of the stuff on our site already. That should help!
Word count should be somewhere between 700 and 1,000 words. Don’t double space after periods. You get extra credit for using em dashes and the Oxford comma.
We want you to link to your sources, your examples, and the like, but articles with lots of self-promo (linking and otherwise) typically aren’t great reads. A good rule of thumb is 3 links per article, but if you’ve got more — and they’ve got a clear purpose — we’ll make an exception.
Making Moxie has a very clean reading experience, so please don’t send images to accompany your article. You may, however, send GIFs. We’ll include ALL the GIFs.
We want to promote your article, and we hope you’ll do the same! Be sure to spread the love.
It’s important that our Making Moxie writers are strong, well-known voices in our community, so only writers willing to engage in a long-term engagement will be accepted. You can choose to write one piece a month or one piece a quarter. How much moxie will you make?
If all of this sounds good to you, please start submitting! Don’t forget to include a sassy professional bio that also tells us why you’re a really cool human. Include links to your website, social profiles, and whatever else you’d like us to promote. We’ll need a high-res photo for your spot on our contributor page AND a stellar photo of you for each article you publish with us, because YOU will be the featured image on your work.
Can’t wait to hear from you! Go ahead and shoot an email to shauna (at) makingmoxie (dot) com to get started.
